 Former South African Homelands or bantustans ceased to exist 27 Apr 1994 and were re-incorporated into South Africa, and all were absorbed into the new provinces.

      1961    Tswanaland Territorial Authority created.
      1968    Tswanaland
01 Apr 1972   Bophuthatswana
01 Jun 1972   Self-government granted.
06 Dec 1977   Declared independent by South Africa (Republic of Bophuthatswana)(recognized only by South Africa and the other homelands).
27 Apr 1994    Reintegrated into South Africa.

The country of Bophuthatswana ceased to exist in 1994 when it was incorporated into South Africa, and the Police and Defence force were disbanded AnAfrican OBSOLETE pattern 1980's defunct Bophuthatswana Police "SPECIAL TASK FORCE" OPERATORS breast badge in blackened & gilt metal, worn by the Elite Police Counter Insurgency and SWAT Unit, measures approx 50mm across, with 2 clutch fittings to reverse, very nice quality badge in very good used condition, slight wear to the black finish, but not to the badge..RARE BADGE...!!
 Southern African defunct BOPHUTHATSWANA TRAFFIC POLICE obsolete 1980's Officers breast star badge in gilt metal & enamel finish, 2 clutch fittings to the reverse, measures approx 60 mm across, very nice quality badge and in very good condition.NOTE. The country of Bophuthatswana ceased to exist during 1994 by being incorporated into South Africa and their badges and insignia became defunct.
