Former Black Homelands (Bantustans)Venda

 Former South African Homelands or bantustans ceased to exist 27 Apr 1994 and were re-incorporated into South Africa, and all were absorbed into the new provinces.

       1962          VhaVenda Territorial Authority.
01 Feb 1973         Self-government achieved.
13 Sep 1979        Declared independent by South Africa (Republic of Venda)(recognized only by South Africa and the other homelands).
27 Apr 1994        Reintegrated into South Africa
A obsolete and scarce 1980's Southern African Venda Police Operational Unit embroided ARM patch. This was the Police Operational Unit responsible for anti - terrorist and other such duties.Venda became part of South Africa in 1994. The Venda homeland was granted self-government in 1973 and declared a republic (which was not internationally recognised) in 1979. It was under military rule from 1990 until it was incorporated into the Northern Province in 1994.
